Adding new road weather forecast points

Road Weather Forecast Points are user-defined data points on a road network that generate site-specific forecasts. There is no hardware/sensors at those locations. Road weather forecast points can be added in batches of 5. Please contact your account manager or technical support for more information.

tip If a Road Weather Forecast Point is the only data source on a route, the forecast for that entire route will be driven by that single point. Placing the point in an unrepresentative location (such as the coldest spot) may give you an overly pessimistic view of conditions across the whole route.

Best practices to determine a location for a Road Weather Forecast Point

  1. Avoid extreme locations: Don't place RWFPs in the coldest, warmest, or most sheltered areas unless these conditions are typical for the majority of the route.
  2. Choose representative conditions: Consider typical elevation, wind exposure, and shading when selecting locations.
  3. Think operationally: Place points where conditions reflect the areas where your maintenance teams typically make treatment decisions.
